Random House Mondadori Random House Mondadori is the joint venture established in 2001 by Mondadori and Random House, the book division of the Bertelsmann Group, to expand and reinforce activities in Spanish-speaking markets (the second largest in the world after english). In 2009 RHM consolidated its position in the Spanish-speaking book market with the publication of a number of top sellers in Spain and Latin America, including books by Isabel Allende, Paulo Coelho, Ildefonso Falcones, Javier Cercas, Marcos Aguinis and Patrick Rothfuss. RHM published Spain's biggest selling hardback book, Un mundo sin fin by Ken Follett, which reached sales of around 1,400,000 copies in Spanish-language markets. Other catalogue titles that sold particularly well included El Fuego by Katherine Neville, the second part of the celebrated bestseller El Ocho, Gomorra by Roberto Saviano published in both hardback and paperback editions, and the thriller La Apelación, by John Grisham, that was on the bestsellers lists in both Spain and Latin America and since August has generated worldwide sales of 200,000 copies in the Spanish language. RHM has also won the rights for the paperback publication of all the novels by John Grisham. While another success was Te daré la tierra by Chufo Llorens, which has sold more than 150,000 copies. Results in Latin America The company maintains its leadership in the six Latin American countries in which it operates (Argentina, Chile, Uruguay, Mexico, Venezuela and Colombia), as well as continuing to have big distribution activities in other countries of the region. The privileged positioning of Random House Mondadori in the South American market is the result of publishing bestsellers such as Un mundo sin fin by Ken Follett, La Apelación, by John Grisham, Suma de los Dìas by Isabel Allende and La Última Lecciòn by Randy Pausch, as well as successful local titles including La Pasión segùn Carmela by Marcos Aguinis, Operatión Traviata by Ceferine Reato, La sociedad del la nieve by Pablo Vierci and La reina del Pacifico by Julio Scherer. In the future Random House Mondadori will intensify its presence in the American market, specifically among the Spanish-speaking residents in the United States, which account for 15% of the population. In this context the agreement reached with the Vintage Español Editorial Group for co-edition of Spanish titles for this market is fundamental. For the launch, among other things, Vintage Español will publish around fifty titles selected from the most successful titles in RHM's publishing archive. In addition, thanks to the association with RHM, Vintage Español will also publish fifteen new titles every year.
