Piemme Publishing Group Since 2003, when Piemme became a part of the Mondadori Group, the company has distinguished itself in the market as one of the leading publishers in both the children's and trade book sectors. In particular, in the children's area, the company is a leader thanks to the success of the series Il Battello a Vapore and to the character Geronimo Stilton who, after his first appearance in 2000, has become enormously popular both in Italy and abroad, where the books have been translated into 35 languages and published in 180 countries. Along with Il Battello a Vapore, in addition to the Serie Classiche, prestigious series of literature for children and teenagers, other new series and characters, often entirely created inside the company, have proved successful, such as Ulysses Moore, Mill&Sugar and Gol!, which are also translated across the world. In the fiction area, the company has achieved extraordinary success with the work of Khaled Hosseini, whose Il cacciatore di aquiloni and Mille splendidi soli have dominated the best sellers lists for more than two years with sales of well over 3 million copies. In the thriller genre the success continues of talented writers who have proved very popular with readers, such as Michael Connelly, while the popularity continues to grow of historical fiction and romantic fiction with authors such as Lauren Weisberger (Il Diavolo veste Prada), Jennifer Weiner (Brava a letto) and Candace Bushnell. Piemme has successfully developed a non-fiction list with titles on current affairs, memoirs and emotionally compelling personal accounts, stand-out examples of which include La bambina che non esisteva and Il bambino senza nome, as well as the popular women's non-fiction line that was launched by the bestseller Falli soffrire. The religious sector, which remains an important element in the company's output, Piemme, which includes among its authors Carlo Maria Martini, Antonio Socci and Camillo Ruini, has expanded its production to include books that deal with testimonies of faith and life that are of considerable interest also to non-believers, such as the books by Dalila Di Lazzaro. In 2007 the company also began to build a paperback catalogue with the launch of the "Piemme Bestseller" series that brings together the best of Piemme's production and that today includes over 150 titles. 2009 saw the launch of the "Piemme Freeway" series, featuring books aimed primarily at adolescent readers. |
