Giulio Einaudi editore Social commitment, an appetite for the new and literary quality continue to be the characteristics that define the Einaudi brand. With a market share of 5.9%, Einaudi continues to confirm both the excellence of its editorial approach and its commercial strength by valorising its catalogue, pursuing a focused author policy and being constantly on the look-out for new work of quality. In this way, foreign fiction has reaffirmed its importance with universally acknowledged writers such as J.M. Coetzee, Philip Roth, Don DeLillo, Marukami Haruki and Abraham Yehoshua; alongside the discovery of new talents such as the Indian novelist Aravind Adiga and the surprising new talent of Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie. Among the most successful titles to be published in 2009 were Un luogo incerto and Scorre la Senna by Fred Vargas, Il museo dell'innocenza by Orhan Pamuk, Il lamento del bradipo by Sam Savage, Altai by Wu Ming, Non deve accadere by Anne Holt and Educazione siberiana by first-time author Nicolai Lilin. Of particular note in Italian fiction was Tiziano Scarpa, who was awarded the 2009 Premio Strega for Stabat Mater. At the same time, in Italian fiction, the company has helped to affirm the voices of Valeria Parrella and Francesco Piccolo, along with the original writing of Anilda Ibrahimi. A programme that was completed by the strength of Goliarda Sapienza and the captivating success of Eugenio Scalfari.
